About Me
Hello, I’m Shawnda Dewberry, LMSW. I offer a warm, supportive space for adults navigating anxiety, depression, stress, self-doubt, trauma, anger, life transitions, and emotional overwhelm. My approach blends compassion with practical tools, including CBT and DBT skills, mindfulness, journaling, and trauma-informed care. What makes my work unique is helping clients feel truly seen while also gently challenging patterns that keep them stuck. Clients can walk away with stronger coping skills, more self-awareness, improved emotional regulation, healthier boundaries, and greater confidence to move forward with clarity and hope. Choosing a therapist online can feel overwhelming. You may be wondering, “Will I feel comfortable? Will I be understood? Will this actually help?” Those are real and important questions. My goal is that from the beginning, you feel seen, supported, and reminded that change is possible. If you are ready to stop carrying everything alone and begin working toward a more grounded, confident, and emotionally healthy version of yourself, I would be honored to support you in that process.
Healing is not just about coping; it is about becoming more connected to who you are.
Background & qualifications
I have over 13 years of experience serving in the mental health field. I earned my Bachelor’s in Social Work from Oakland University and my Master’s in Social Work from Wayne State University in Detroit. I offer virtual therapy in the evenings, making it easier to access support without rearranging your entire day. I also offer Christian counseling for clients who want to include faith in their healing process, while also fully respecting clients who prefer a non-faith-based approach. My approach is warm, honest, practical, and collaborative. I use a person-centered and strength-based foundation, while also incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, DBT-informed skills, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care. This means we will not only talk about what is happening, but also work on tools that help you better understand your thoughts, regulate emotions, communicate more effectively, build self-awareness, and respond to life in healthier ways.
